Diary of a Wimpy Kid is an international bestselling children’s book series by author, cartoonist and web developer Jeff Kinney, which has sold over 16 million copies in the US alone.
An online phenomenon, it began life on www.funbrain.com where 70,000 children per day have read Diary of a Wimpy Kid and nearly 20 million children have read it since it first appeared online in May 2004.
The first book was released in the UK in July 2008, and the series has quickly become a playground must-have in the UK, with The Last Straw reaching number 5 in the children’s book charts and book one going into the Booked Up scheme in autumn 2009.

Greg’s hilarious antics are narrated in his own voice (and handwriting) with cartoon illustrations of his own and this mix of text and pictures has proven a hit with readers of all ages and abilities. Even the most reluctant readers are able to pick these books up, read them, and ask for more, and they’ve been especially praised for getting boys interested in reading.
